Figment
I look down at the water.
Like smooth, clear glass.
I see my reflection.
Then, my face wavers as something breaks
the surface.
I look out across the gem that is the ocean.
I see a glistening body.
It’s a young man, my age.
His long, slender dreads shine with diamonds
of water.
I feel his gaze fall on me.
I quickly look away, embarrassed.
I stare longingly at another part of the
ocean.
From the corner of my eye,
I see him beside me.
I turn my head, my reddish-umber curls trembling.
He smiles.
I return it, stretching out my legs.
He sits down next to me on the same smooth
rock.
Our eyes meet.
This god’s eyes are like miniature oceans.
I lean against him, his arm draped over my
shoulders.
Then, he vanishes.
I never saw him again.
