See me
When you look at me, what do you see?
Do you see me?
Do you
really
see me?
Yeah, I have a few scars, but they tell my
story.
They make me unique, like everyone here.
Just because I have these scars and a limp
doesn’t mean you have to turn away.
Ya know that saying, ”Don’t judge a book
by its cover”?
Well, heed it. Don’t judge my looks.
See me, see my soul, see my heart, see my
mind.
See me for me.
See me for who I am.
My poetry tells you how I am.
I use words to paint a picture.
My voice is me, who I am.
See me, see the love I have.
I have love for everyone.
I have love for him, her, and you.
See me, see the real me.
The true me.
The internal me.
Look past the façade.
That’s me.
Stop the madness
It’s killin me, to see black folk fightin
each otha.
It’s killin me, to see brotha against brotha.
Why must we fight?
Why can’t we be tight?
We need to calm down.
So we won’t frown.
From all this grief.
We need relief.
Let’s come togetha as a community.
Cuz we need unity.
Maybe we could stop the killin.
So then, we could be chillin.
We gotta watch our children.
We gotta be there for them.
We can’t expect them to do the right thing,
If some of us are missing.
Some people are missing, in a sense that
they don’t care.
They’re never there.
Mentally, physically, and spiritually.
With their kids, is where they need to be.
We need to teach our kids love and respect.
We don’t need anymore wrecks.
Wrecks, as in fights and namecallin.
There’s too much of this stallin.
If this doesn’t quit,
More graves will be hit.
It won’t stop til we unite.
Then, we won’t fight.
