"Hey, Casey, wait up! I need to talk to you for a minute!"
shouted Josephine "Jo-Jo" Rodriguez. Casey Bogert walked
fast across the school's lawn. The school, Rugford High
School, had their annual Halloween picnic for everybody to
enjoy. The day was beautiful, with sunny, warm weather of
78 degrees. Casey was wearing her pink and purple
midriff-bearing tank top, pink and purple seek through skirt,
and her gold high heeled shoes. She was dressed up as a genie.
Her best friend, Jo-Jo, was chasing her across the lawn, trying
to talk to her.
"CASEY!" Jo-Jo shouted so loud, birds flew from their trees,
frightened. Jo-Jo was wearing a light pink, silk skirt, dark
pink slipper shoes, a silver wand with a blue ball at the top,
mesh wings on her back, and to top it off, a silver crown on
top of her head. Jo-Jo's curly, black hair was up in a bun.
She was a fairy. Casey was halfway to the food stand when she
felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around and saw Jo-Jo
behind her.
"Oh! You scared the snot out of me!" gasped Casey. Jo-Jo was
tapping her foot on the ground, waiting for Casey to come with
her.
"Alright. What do you want?" said Casey, looking around to see
if anybody was watching them.
"Well,I wanted to talk to you about Corey Farsdell," whispered
Jo-Jo.
"Let's go over to the sitting area and talk," sighed Casey.
She'd been dating Corey for about a week now. They walked over
to the concrete slabs sitting on top of concrete blocks for
benches. Casey sat down on one end of one of the benches, and
Jo-Jo sat down on the other end.
"Casey, I know you have been dating Corey for quite some time,
and I just want to tell you that he has been going to your
favorite place, Papa's Pizza Parlor, with CeCe Fatrillo behind
your back."
"That liar! Remember when he came over my house and you were
there studying with me on Thursday? Well, he said his sister
was sick and he had to go home and take care of her, " Casey
said with a tone in her voice. She burst into tears of
angriness.
"I'm sorry Casey, but I think you should have known that from
me, your best friend," Jo-Jo apologized, putting her arms
around Casey's shoulders. Casey wiped her eyes with her silk
scarf that was on her headpiece. She stood up and ran from
the sitting area, screaming like a lunatic. Everybody else
was whispering and staring at the enraged girl. Jo-Jo got up
and ran after her. When Jo-Jo finally caught up to her, Casey
was beating on her new red and black convertible.
"Stop it Casey! You're going to hurt yourself!" shouted Jo-Jo,
trying to pry Casey off her car. Casey finally let go and
stepped back.
"I'm sorry I was acting up just a minute ago," Casey said, looking
at her black and purple bruised hands.
"That's okay, Casey. I'm used to it," replied Jo-Jo, opening the
door for Casey. Casey got in and Jo-Jo closed the door. Jo-Jo
opened her door and climbed inside.
"Where are the keys?" questioned Jo-Jo, looking in every compartment.
"In the visor pocket above you, " replied Casey, carefully pointing
above Jo-Jo's head. Jo-Jo flipped the visor down, and gold and
silver keys fell into her lap. She put the keys in the ignition,
turned it, and the car roared to life.
"I'm going to take you home, clean your hands, bandage them, and
we'll go for a nice, brisk walk in the woods, okay?" asked Jo-Jo.
"Okay, Jo-Jo," responded Casey, with a hurt look on her face.
Jo-Jo backed slowly out of the senior's parking lot. On the
open road, heading for Baxter Street, Casey was sleeping like
a baby. Jo-Jo glanced over and smiled. Coming up to a tall,
Victorian-style house that was white, with yellow trim around
the windows. She pulled up the driveway, opened the garage
door with a button on the ceiling of the car, drove in, and shut
off the ignition. She took the keys out.
"Casey, wake up. We're home, " whispered Jo-Jo in Casey's ear.
Casey stirred and opened her eyes a little. Casey sat up and
looked around, puzzled. Jo-Jo opened her door and got out.
She walked over to Casey's side and opened her door and helped
her out. Casey's hands started to bleed all of sudden.
"Oh my gosh, Casey! Your hands!" Jo-Jo gasped, pointing at her
hands. Casey looked down at her hands and gasped. They went
out of the garage and opened the front door. Jo-Jo led Casey in
and closed the door with a click.
"There's some rubbing alcohol in the bathroom. It's on the
sink," said Casey, with a hoarse voice. Jo-Jo rushed to the
bathroom in the leftside of the hall. She came back with a big,
1-quart bottle of alcohol. Casey found some cotton balls laying
on the couch that she was sitting on. Jo-Jo sat down beside her
and opened the bottle. She picked up a cotton ball and put it
on top of the neck of the bottle. She tipped it over and she
felt cool alcohol soaking the cotton. Casey was trying not to let
the blood drip on the couch blanket. Jo-Jo grabbed one of Casey's
hands and dabbed it.
"Ouch! It burns!" Casey squealed through clenched teeth.
"I know it burns, but I have to do this in order to heal your
hands," Jo-Jo said, grabbing her other hand. She rubbed that
hand, and she found some band-aids laying on the table in front
of them. She picked five up, and started bandaging her hands.
"Now, we can go for that brisk walk, okay?" questioned Jo-Jo.
"Okay Jo-Jo," replied Casey, a little smile forming on her creamy
face.
"Casey," questioned Jo-Jo, " can we change into some comfortable
clothes?"
"Yes we can. Come to my room." responded Casey, standing up and
stretching. Jo-Jo got up and followed Casey to her room. She
turned on the light, and her cream-colored Siamese cat jumped off
her bed, walked to her desk and curled up under there to snooze.
Casey opened her closet and pulled out two pairs of black jeans,
a white and black striped shirt, a green shirt, and two pairs of
old Nikes. They changed quickly, and Casey grabbed two white
jackets out of the closet out in the hall, both of them hers, and
they walked out the door. They set off for their walk. Suddenly,
the sky darkened to a charcoal-gray. A big, clear drop fell on
Casey's head.
"It's starting to rain, " she said to Jo-Jo, who put her hood up
on her jacket. Casey put her hood up, too. Thunder boomed like a
thousand drums being played by a thousand drummers. Lightning tore
across the sky like someone tearing a sheet of paper. The two
rain-soaked girls started to run towards the woods. As soon as
they got into the woods, there was less rain in there. The reason
for that is the trees were closer together. The trees were bent
over them to form a canopy. The girls were scared and soaked to
the bone. Casey was trying to find a dry spot to sit down at. She
finally found a large, smooth looking gray rock. Jo-Jo followed
her to the rock. They sat down for a rest and to get dried off.
"Jo-Jo, I think we're lost," Casey said, with a scared tone in
her voice.
"No we're not. I've been in here many times before," responded
Jo-Jo, patting Casey's back. As she looked up, she saw a bright,
neon green light coming from behind a medium-sized rock.
"Casey! Look over there!" Jo-Jo whispered in her ear. Casey looked
up and gasped. Jo-Jo and Casey got up at the same time. They slowly
walked over to the bright light. When they got over there, it
stopped glowing. Jo-Jo picked it up and rolled it over in her hands.
"What is it?" questioned Casey.
"It's some kind of stone," answered Jo-Jo. Casey touched it. Jo-Jo
put it in her jacket pocket.
"We can go to my house and examine it under my electron microscope.
My parents are out of town in New Orleans, Louisiana," Jo-Jo told
Casey.
"My parents are out of town, too," said Casey. They walked back to
Jo-Jo's house. Her house was right beside Casey's house. When they
got there, they went up to Jo-Jo's laboratory. She put the stone
under the lens and focused it. Beside the microscope was a computer.
She typed in " green stone ". A screen came up that said, "Checking
for identification". Finally, at the top of the screen in bold
letters it said, "The Sacred Green Stone" .
"So that's what it is," Jo-Jo said to herself. Casey walked over
and looked at the screen.
"A sacred stone?" gasped Casey. All of a sudden, the stone started
to glow again.
"Jo-Jo, look," Casey pointed to the stone. As Jo-Jo turned her head,
a bright green beam shot out of it.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHH!" screamed both Casey and Jo-Jo in unison. Suddenly,
the beam hit Jo-Jo. She fell to the floor. Casey screamed again
and ran over to Jo-Jo. She lifted her head.
"Jo-Jo? Are you alright?" Casey questioned. All of a sudden, Jo-Jo's
eyes shot open. Her eyes were the same color as the stone! Casey
backed away. Jo-Jo stood up.
"I am Diya, the Sacred Stone goddess," Jo-Jo announced in a booming
woman's voice. Casey was puzzled. Jo-Jo walked over to her
microscope. She snatched the stone and commanded Casey to come
with her.
"Come Casey Bogert. You must come to the woods and perform a
ceremony with me to give me full power," boomed Jo-Jo. Casey got
up slowly, not sure of what was going to happen next. Jo-Jo and
Casey went downstairs and walked out the door. They headed for
the woods that they were in before.
"Jo-Jo?" asked Casey.
"Diya," corrected Jo-Jo.
"Diya? What part of the woods are we going to?" questioned Casey.
It seemed like they walked on for miles. Finally, they got to a
leafy place. Jo-Jo kneeled on the ground.
"Kneel my friend," Jo-Jo ordered. Casey kneeled. Jo-Jo set the
stone in between them. She started to chant:
"By the gods of my four fathers, give me full power of all my
ancestors!" All of a sudden, a large transporter beam-like light
showered from the sky. Casey started to scream. Jo-Jo started to
glow bright green. The stone started to glow.
"JO-JO!" shouted Casey. Suddenly, Diya's soul flew from Jo-Jo's
body. Her body crumpled to the ground. The beam cleared away,
taking the soul with it. The stone stopped glowing. Casey crawled
over to Jo-Jo's lifeless body.
"Jo-Jo? Come on wake up," beckoned Casey. Jo-Jo's eyes fluttered
open.
"Where am I?" asked Jo-Jo.
"We're in the woods Jo-Jo," responded Casey. Casey helped her up.
Then, they walked back through the woods to Casey's house. When
they got to Casey's house, Jo-Jo was confused about what had
happened.
"Casey? How did this happen?" questioned Jo-Jo.
"Well," explained Casey," when you examined the stone, the stone
extracted a beam that hit you, and you were possessed by a spirit."
"Oh. So that's what happened to me," Jo-Jo said, nodding her head.
"Well, let's hope we never find a weird stone like that ever again,
promise?" questioned Casey.
"Promise," responded Jo-Jo.
Back in the woods, the stone was left there. It had embedded
itself into the ground, waiting for its next victim to possess!
HAAAAAA! HAAAAAAAAA!
