Butler freshman star shine Bright at region two track meet
This years stars at the class AAA region two track and field meet was Freshman Chelsea Brown who swept four events and teammate Jade Miles also showcased her talent for this young dynamite team. Brown won the 100 and 200 sprints and 300 hurdles, but it was her dominating win in a competitive 400 that highlighted the meet. Chelsea won 100 and 200 sprints and the 300 hurdles but her strongest competition today came in the 400 From North Hardin's Ashley Boykin. The race was close until they reached the backstretch where Chelsea made her move and never looked back at the field, winning in a time of 56.05. Central's Brittany Davis finished second (58.22) and Ashley Boykin took third (58.79) Brown started her day off by winning the 100 in 12.86 Miles was second in a time of 13.18. The championship is June 2 and 3 at Paul Lawrence Dunbar in Lexington Kentucky. Miles the other Butler standout star started her day out with a victory in the 100 hurdles. Her time was of 16.71 just edging out North Hardin's Chianta Holmes with a time of (17.10). Miles also won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet.1 inches North Hardin's Tarayla Merriweather was second (16 ½) feet. The top two finishers in each event and selected time qualifiers will head to the state meet June 2-3 at Dunbar High. Manual also had outstanding performances from their young underclass in the distance races. Colleen Campbell an outstanding sophomore won the 1,600 with a time of 5.19.88 edging out her teammate Mary Grace Pellegrini (5.19.89) Campbell came back to take the 800 in 2.21.47 from another sophomore teammate Brooke Hurley who finished second in a time of 2.23.41. Pellegrini won the 3,200 in 11.45.80 .Manual's distance divas led by Campbell, Hurley and Pellegrini came back to win the 3,200 relay. The Boy's Track and field events where highlighted by North Hardin's Marion Webb whose day began with a win in the 100 in a time of 11.45.80 over St X's Will Simmons. Webb was not considered the favorite in the sprint event. Webb gained confidence after the 100 which give him the drive to carry North Hardin to a win in the 800 relay and followed that up by wining the 200 in a time of 22.53 over Manual's Gerry Copper who was second in 22.67. Webb believes that he is peaking at the right and just wants to keep running hard. St. X.'s efforts in the 800 was outstanding Matt Blum won(1.59.39) and teammate Schardein was 2nd (1.59.43) and both helped St X qualify in the 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams. We must give a shout out to the big men in the field events Corey Peters who won the discus toss 134-4 for Central and Male's Darin English was second 131-3. Peters who headed to the University of Kentucky next fall to play football.
